Notes

Fu Hsiang, for his part, is not unlike Socrates, in that his questions are designed to lead the students to knowledge by exposing the contradictions in their thinking. His technique, of asking apparently irrelevant questions and then accumulating the answers into a refutation of his student's position or a defence of his own, are very much in the spirit of the elenchus of Socrates.

It is my hope that these dialogues will be read by people who are interested in the spirit and practice of Taoism.
