Tsia Tung: So sifu, what do you think? Are we essentially good or evil?

Fu Hsiang: I have taught you both esoteric anatomy27, what are the principle organs of the body?

Tsia Tung: The ten principle organs are the kidneys, the liver, the lungs, the large intestines, the bladder, the small intestines, the heart, the stomach, the spleen and the gall bladder.28

Fu Hsiang: Men Chow, how are these organs associated with each other?

Men Chow: The organs are paired with each other, yin and yang29; kidneys with bladder, the stomach with the spleen, the liver is paired with the gall bladder, the large intestine with the lungs, the small intestine with the heart, and the spleen is paired with the stomach.

Fu Hsiang: Excellent. And who can tell me the afflictive emotions and which organs they affect?

Tsia Tung: The five afflictive emotions are fear, anger, grief, hysteria, and worry. Fear affects the kidneys and the bladder, worry affects the stomach and the spleen, grief affects the large intestine and the lungs, hysteria affects the heart and small intestine and anger affects the liver and gall bladder30.
